Arsenal win FA Womens Super League
Congratulations to Arsenal ladies on retaining their FA Womens Super League title following victory over Doncaster Belles on Sunday. Arsenal were already assured of the title after closest rivals Birmingham failed to defeat Bristol Academy earlier in the day, but a goal from Kelly Smith and two own goals from the Belles ensured that Arsenal celebrated with a victory.
It has been a very competitve campaign, but Arsenal’s extra quality has brought them the title again with international stars such as Smith, Rachel Yankey and Faye White taking the Gunners unbeaten through the season so far, with 10 wins from 13 games bringing them the title with a game to spare.
It has been a big year for womens football in the UK, with the Super League coming to the end of its second successful season, and attendances increasing by approximately 10% following the huge coverage of Team GB ladies during the London 2012 Olympics. Arsenal have been dominant in the womens games for a few years now, but with big names like Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool all fielding teams in the Super League – the 2013 campaign is sure to be just as hard fought.
Aston Villa have not made a good start to the season, but they are ahead of many clubs as they now offer an away shirt designed specifically for women for the very first time! Villa’s kit is manufactured by Macron this season, and the new agreement means that Villa’s product range has been extended to include the ladies away shirt.
The shirt is a bright lime green, and has been adopted as a favourite by Villa fans who like to ‘glow in the dark’. The shirt is in stock at Kitbag right now for £45, and it is just an extra £5 to add the name and number of your favourite Villa player. Let’s hope that Villa’s performances improve and so that they are as well organised on the pitch as they are on it!
Everton Womens shirt 2012/13
With the new season about to kick off, all of the brand new Premier League shirts are now ready for sale with ladies replica shirts available from all of the major teams.
We have been eagerly awaiting details of the new Everton ladies shirt all summer, which will be manufactured by Nike. Unfortunately, we have recently learnt that we won’t be able to feature the shirt on this site as Nike have made the decision not to produce a ladies version of the replica shirt. The official reason is that they require a minimum run of around 7,000 shirts, so it would not be profitable to manufacture this many based on last season’s sales.
Everton are one of the oldest, most historic and traditional clubs in English football, and they have a huge female fanbase – so it seems a shame that they have taken this decision. This seems to be another example of the fans interests being well behind those of the moneymen, and is a blow for all female football fans after the success of Team GB at the Olympics.
Finding the Right Sport For You
Taking up a sport is a great way to keep fit as well as to socialise with others. Going to the gym can be quite a solitary experience, which can be useful if you want to get your head down and work off some calories but there is so much to be said for taking up a team sport.
Wherever you live there is bound to be some sort of organised team sport going on. Whether that be rugby, cricket or football and many of these sports clubs or teams will have a women`s side too.
Women`s football in particular is becoming more and more popular and is considered by many to be the fastest growing sport out there at the moment. No longer the sole domain of men, what women may lack in physical strength, they more than make up for with their intelligent play and ball skills.
Many schools are now teaching girl`s football as part of their PE lessons or even offering it as an extracurricular activity and girls are taking it up in their droves. Women`s football even became a recognised Olympic Sport in 1996. Obviously, you don`t need to be Olympic standard to join in with your local club, it is likely they will be delighted to see you whatever your current level. The team coach will be able to assess your level and help you develop your skills and fitness.
Taking part in a team sport is great for fitness, yes, it will be fun, but if you join a team that likes to compete, you are likely to be asked to train hard. Not only will this build you fitness level, which is great in itself, but there are also other skills coming in to play here. Playing a sport as part of a team can help build confidence and self esteem as well as calling upon and developing cooperation skills. Team sports are particularly great for youngsters as they can teach them the importance of cooperating with others, the benefits of respecting others skills, abilities and achievements and even delegation skills. All these skills are useful in the classroom as well as the workplace.
If you want to take up a team sport but want to brush up on your skills first then you might want to take a look at the SportsBallShop where you will find a selection of different sports balls as well as other equipment to get you on your way.
Womens artificial turf football boots
As the summer has finally arrived, the football season seems a long way off and most of the summer action takes place on the five a side pitch. There are now several five a side leagues dedicated specifically for women, and these take place around the country on a weekly basis.
You will need a good pair of artificial turf boots to make an impact on the five a side pitch, and specifications vary dramatically from playing on grass. Astro turf tends to be quite hard, so boots will need to be durable and they will usually feature a series of smaller studs on the sole of the boot to provide traction and to avoid damaging the artificial surface.
The ball will also tend to travel faster and further on artificial turf, so it is important to have boots that offer a good touch for control – otherwise you will find the ball bouncing way off your boot. Good control is vital in smaller sided games as there tends to be less space with very little time on the ball.
Nike offer a quality pair of boots in the form of the Nike Tiempo Legend, which are specifically designed for women. They feature a soft kangaroo leather upper for excellent control, as well as Nike ID personalisation options. We have got the full details in our womens football boots section, as well as a range of boots for all other budgets and pitch surfaces.
